Who doesn't love a friendly ghost that's terrified of its own shadow? This illustration plays on a vintage cartoon theme where you have a ghost that's supposed to be scary but is actually a misunderstood character that's more scared of everything else.
I started this personal project to practice illustrating dramatic facial expressions. The idea was to wrap and bend the expression around an arc till it begins to reach a breaking point without pushing past it. The end result is an exaggerated look of shock which is super fun.
NOTE: It's important to note that emotion is depicted in how the body is posed as much as it's shown in a facial expression. That hat flying off helps create a sense of movement and adds interest.
