He's feisty and hungry for mischief, Joey Barbecue has been busy terrorizing the 'burbs. As you might expect, the 4th of July is his favorite holiday. Unfortunately, that has more to do with his love of explosions than for his country.
This self-initiated project was useful in exploring different illustration techniques. In this case, I wanted to explore creating a full comic-style panel where the background was given the same attention and care as the main character.

The inspiration for illustrating Joey came from wondering what a combination of Denise the Menace and Frisch's Big Boy would look like. The final result draws on the classic Big Boy running pose with the attitude, face, and clothes of Denise.
