Snowboarders and Skiers for Christ was founded in 1995 by a group of Christians in New Zealand who were passionate about both snowboarding and skiing and wanted to share their faith with others in their community. From its humble beginnings, the organization has grown and now serves Christians around the world who love these winter sports.
During the summer of 2022, Ryan Leeds, the Director of Leadership Training at Snowboarders and Skiers for Christ, approached Good Craft with a request for unique merchandise and apparel designs for the upcoming winter season. The theme for the season was "Go and Sow," and Ryan wanted to create a character that would bring this theme to life.
Ryan had the vision of creating a character that depicted a skiing farmer sowing seeds. With this concept in mind, I set to work sketching out some fun and unique characters for the design.
CONCEPT SKETCHES
NOTE: It was important to draw the character in a pose that was joyful, depicted motion, and welcoming.
HOW IT WENT
Snowboarders and Skiers for Christ loved the concept sketches so much that they requested to expand the scope of the original project to include the drawing the farmer character in two poses instead of one. The concept of the farmer standing on a hill was selected as the primary pose and the downhill skiing pose would be as a secondary illustration.
The final results were a great success. Each final character is armed with a winning smile and dynamic pose that capture the original brand strategy goal outlined at the beginning of the project.
